Supplements My Husband and I Take

by: Monica Brant

Between coaching and day to day communication with others I receive many questions regarding health and fitness over the course of a day.  For instance, how long have I worked out, what does my workout look like, how clean do I eat, how much do I eat, do I snack, do I eat out, do I ever cheat, how much do I bench press/curl/squat…. and what supplements do my husband (the Cowboy)  and I take? Along with a smile and somewhat standard answer, “Don’t ask me WHAT I take, ask me what IT takes!” I then proceed to share about consistency over the years, healthy habits and clean eating coupled with regular exercise and of course, I will share my favorite supplements too.

Below I’ve listed products I appreciate having access to and use daily.. as well as my beloved Cowboy (who I expect to be in my life for a very long time with great health). Now, keep in mind, my husband is a real-life cowboy, he trains horses on a ranch and has done this for as long as I’ve been in fitness (almost 30 years).

He is one of the very best in the world in his division which is based around the American Quarter Horse breed and the All-Around events held at AQHA horse shows. Mind you, he likes to wake up and be out the door in mins… so I’ve made it a point to ensure that he has access to the best products, and they are easy to use!

Without further a due, the following are our go-to’s:

Nitric Oxide

We use Neo40 /BeetElite or SuperBeets daily to help support our N.O. production throughout the day. Usually Neo40 1stthing in the morning and either BE or SB later in the day depending on exercise plans for the afternoon. In my opinion and based off loads of research, N.O. is essential to all life!

As we age our N.O. levels decline and by the time we are 40 years we are only able to produce possibly 50% of what we did in our 20s.
N.O. affects how every cell in our body communicates with each other and supports healthy blood pressure levels, promotes cardiovascular and heart health as well increases circulation throughout the body.

I love the affects of higher N.O. levels such as increased energy/stamina that extends exercise and endurance because of the increased oxygen racing through dilated arteries! Certainly, it helps at the ranch when there are 10 + horses to ride as well!!

Vitamin D3 & Vitamin K2

Cowboy and I both use this simple lozenge in the morning to supply the recommended therapeutic amounts of both D3 (5000 IU) and K2 (80 mcg) all in a once-a-day dose.  It has a mild flavor which we appreciate greatly as well. This product works synergistically with calcium to support bone and cardiovascular health. Don’t want to miss this product ever as healthy, strong bones are essential for aging and remaining strong!

Vitamin B’s

Cowboy and I both use this tablet that tastes like candy and melts like magic in the mornings as well. I love that it supports our moods and general feeling of well-being plus helps stimulate energy and metabolism.

Collagen & Whey Protein

I have become addicted to this product and enjoy easily mixing the vanilla flavor with my Green Matcha tea and the Salted Caramel flavor with my English Breakfast tea.  I love the fact that it’s a combination of grass-fed Whey and Collagen in an all-in-one protein powder that promotes healthy joints, muscle strength, and strong skin, hair, and nails. I use this product daily and Cowboy maybe 2-3x a week.

Greens Powder

Cowboy and I typically include this in with either the BeetElite or Super Beets in the afternoons for an extra ‘pick-me-up’. I love that it is an organic, plant-based blend of powerful ingredients that fits the demands of our lifestyle. Endurance Greens helps boost stamina & improve my sports performance or Cowboy’s riding performance as well promotes mental focus and alertness (super important when riding!). Also, it helps maintain balanced energy levels for endurance while supporting digestive and immune health.

Outside of HumanN’s effective and superb products we use a highly concentrated Aloe Vera product for digestive health along with probiotics and a Nrf2 product for overall reduced oxidative stress.

Nascent Iodine

To promote the normal iodine levels necessary to support the thyroid and encourage normal hormone balance we use a Nascent Iodine supplement daily. It’s important to know that the CDC reports that iodine deficiency is one of the four major deficiency diseases in the world. Thankfully we have seen our Thyroid blood panels increase over the last couple years from using this product.

Magnesium tablets and spray

My research has shown that 1000s of people are deficient in magnesium due to the lack of quality food and soil that has been stripped of its nutrients.Magnesium is a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme systems that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. I believe it’s extremely important to supplement with so in the evenings, before bed, I will hand Cowboy his Magnesium tablets (400mcg) and I will take mine too (400mcg.). After my night showers I have a Magnesium spray that I will use once I am towel dried and allow to dry on my skin.
I believe that Magnesium plays a role in supporting deep, restorative sleep by maintaining healthy levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep. Sleep is so important to a healthy body!

Melatonin

Lastly, I’ve found a liquid Melatonin that I use a few times a week to help with my body’s circadian rhythm helping to prepare me for sleep. Cowboy uses it sometimes too.

Now, let me assure you that my cowboy does NOT enjoy using products and sometimes if I ask him if he’s been using a product he sighs and says he misses the ‘old’ days (we’ve only been married 7 years) where he didn’t have to take anything special… but quickly remembers that he feels much better NOW at 48 then he’s ever felt before in his life!

So, he quickly changes his tone and says, “Thank you, Wifey, for the reminder”.

While I was planning to write this Blog, I was contemplating about what it means to be HumanN to me…

Being HumanN to me means I live each day to the fullest… and when I don’t, it’s because I am HumanN. It means I eat as well as I can most days… and when I don’t, it’s because I am HumanN.  It means I train very hard and expect a lot from myself… and when I don’t, it’s because I am HumanN.  It means I pray every day for blessings, safety, peace, love, joy, kindness, self-control, faith, gentleness, goodness, patience, humility and when I don’t, it’s because I am HumanN.  It means I use great products, and when I don’t, it’s because I am HumanN

As you can see being HumanN can be so many things.. both positive and negative. Personally, I chose to remain on the positive side of life as often as I can and surround myself with likeminded people (outside of my amazing family), products and environment choices.I’ve handled my life like this for as long as I can remember and I’m sure this is one of the biggest reasons I’ve been able to sustain my athletic abilities and professional opportunities for almost 30 years. With high standards I handle my business and exercise programs and I expect my supplementation to work in harmony with my routines. Here in the Jewett/Brant household it’s a team.. we both work hard and play hard..  he brings his strengths to the relationship and I bring mine.. and I must admit, we make a great team! It’s a wonderful life being HumanN with my Cowboy!
