Exeter Study: Cyclists Improve Endurance With Beetroot Juice
In a 2009 clinical trial at the University of Exeter, researchers tested the endurance effects of beetroot juice. Eight men aged 19 to 38 were given 500ml per day of beetroot juice for six days before completing tests on an exercise bike. The same participants repeated the test on another occasion, using a blackcurrant cordial placebo. Compared to the placebo, the beetroot juice improved cycling endurance (time to exhaustion) by 15% over the placebo.
